Listen to this or ELSE: Gregory and the Hawk – Boats and Birds

It has only happened a few times throughout my life where someone recommends a song, and I become absolutely obsessed with it.  And I don’t use ‘obsessed’ lightly.  I mean, I enjoy recommendations…but to become obsessed…on a scale of 1-10, a 1000? Only sometimes.

I’m pretty sure that if my friend reads this, even he’ll be sick of hearing me sing its praises.

The first thing that might come to mind is a romantic love.  However, in the singer’s (Meredith’s) own view, it’s about leaving home.  So a parent and their child could also come to mind with the lyrics.

But no matter how you choose to interpret the lyrcs – it’s a tender, haunting, and beautiful song.
And her voice just makes me melt.
It’s probably the best song you’ve heard in a while 😉

It’s about loving, devotion, it’s about letting go, acceptance…and through it all…still loving.
Even though your love for someone is so strong, if you know the best thing for them is for you to let them go, and you do it…that’s powerful.  I believe that’s what happening in the song, and at the end she’s sort of saying, you can go…but don’t you dare let me forget you.

In it’s own way it’s as uplifting as it is “emo”.
And I hope you like 🙂

Sidenote: for as much shit as Brooklyn gets, one can’t deny the musical talent it produces.

Listen to this, or ELSE: Sweet Thing – Change of Seasons

Actually nothing much “else” will happen to you, except for the fact that you will miss an opportunity to be introduced to an amazing and perhaps life changing music tidbit.

In today’s case, I am telling you (althought my style is normally to ask politely) to listen to the song “Change of Seasons” by the Canadian based band, Sweet Thing.

I only was introduced to this song yesterday.  I saw the movie Easy-A and it was in the opening (and then closing!) credits.  The start of the song, with it’s catchy sing-a-long- “ba-da-das”, had me loving it right away.  At that point I remember a distinct thought going through my head: “I don’t even care if the movie isn’t half as good as I expected.  I can have this song.”

Even the first lyrics are note-worthy.  “You want love/But you fear it.” How truthful is that??

It’s a fantastic catch, and I”m glad Sweet Thing has got me hooked; I can’t wait to check out more of their other stuff.

Also, any band that has members that wears orange pants is okay by me.  Slightly crushin.
